Death Penalty in Malaysia : The Ongoing Debate

Image
The death penalty has always sparked intense debate but in Malaysia, the conversation is at a tipping point. Once seen as a way to stop serious crimes, it is now being questioned for its fairness, ethics, and usefulness today.  The question remains : Can justice be served without resorting to the ultimate punishment ? Historically, the death penalty was used for murder under British colonial rule. In 1952, the Dangerous Drugs Act was introduced without the death penalty. In 1975, it became discretionary for drug trafficking, and by 1983, it became mandatory.   [1] The government amended Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act (DDA) to grant courts the discretion to impose either the death penalty or life imprisonment for drug trafficking offenses in 2017. On 10 June 2022, the government took a step further by agreeing to abolish the mandatory death penalty.  In April 2023, Malaysia passed the Abolition of Mandatory Death Penalty Act, which removed the mandatory death ...

Witness to Horror : The Ongoing Genocide in Palestine

Image
The Palestinians had been witnessing many ruthless attacks and confiscations by Israel's army, beginning from 1987 until today.  The army of Israel is constantly bombing, attacking, and torturing the children, women and old people. They also destroy the hospitals and schools. This shows how the Zionist had been breaching international law by ignoring what is prohibited by the statute. We must realize the seriousness of this concern. It is one of the longest and most complicated disputes in history. It began in the 20th century when tensions between Arabs and Jews grew. In 1948, the State of Israel was created, leading to the displacement of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians. This event, called the Nakba or “catastrophe,” started a violent struggle over land, rights, and sovereignty that has deeply affected millions of lives. In 1967, Israel took control of the West Bank, Gaza Strip, and East Jerusalem during the Six-Day War. This led to the building of Israeli settlement...

For example, they might think keeping animals in cages or on chains is okay, but it’s harmful to their well-being.   How SPCA Selangor Helps? Ultra Vires: A Unique Doctrine in Corporate Governance

Image
The doctrine of ultra vires, a Latin term meaning "beyond the powers," plays a vital role in ensuring that businesses and organizations operate within the boundaries of their legal and authorized scope. It prevents companies from engaging in activities they are not authorized to do, thus protecting stakeholders and maintaining legal compliance. In this discussion, we will explore how the ultra vires doctrine works and its significance in corporate governance. Defining Ultra Vires Ultra vires refers to actions taken by a company or an individual that exceed their authorized powers, rendering them void or unenforceable. For example, if a company engages in activities not outlined in its charter or bylaws, or if a government agency enacts policies beyond its legal authority, those actions are considered ultra vires. Such actions may lead to invalid contracts, judicial review, and potential liability for damages. This principle ensures accountability by limiting overreac...
